The PDF Watermark tool stamps text — like CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, or your company name — across every page of a PDF directly inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so even sensitive contracts and internal reports stay private.

Why Watermark a PDF?

A watermark instantly communicates ownership, status, or intent without altering the document's content. Common uses include:

• Confidentiality marking — label internal documents so readers know not to share them.
• Draft tracking — keep early versions distinguishable from final approved files.
• Branding deliverables — add your studio or freelance brand to proposals and reports.

How It Works

We use the open-source pdf-lib library to load your PDF, embed the Helvetica Bold font, and draw your watermark text on every page. You control font size, color, opacity, rotation angle, and position. The result is a new PDF saved with the same quality and structure as the original.

Privacy by Design

Files are processed locally in your browser. No upload server, no temporary cache, no analytics on file contents. Once you close the tab, the file is gone from memory.

Choosing the Right Settings

For most documents, a diagonal watermark at 30-40% opacity with a neutral gray color reads clearly without blocking text. Vertical (top or bottom) placements work well for short labels like page footers. Use larger sizes (50-80pt) for full-page coverage and smaller sizes (24-32pt) for corner stamps.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my own logo as a watermark?

This tool currently supports text watermarks only. For image-based logo watermarks, convert your logo into clear text branding or use our Image Watermark tool for image files first.

Will the watermark cover important content?

Use the opacity slider (we recommend 20-40%) to make the watermark visible without obscuring text. Diagonal placement is the most common because it covers the page without blocking a specific column.

Can the watermark be removed?

Once stamped via pdf-lib, the watermark becomes part of the page's content stream and is not stored as a separate, removable layer. It can still be edited out with professional PDF software, so for legal use combine watermarking with restricted permissions.

Does this work on every page automatically?

Yes. Every page in the uploaded PDF receives the same watermark in a single click. There is no page-by-page setup needed.

Is the original file modified?

No. Your original file stays untouched on your computer. The tool produces a new file with the watermark applied, which you download separately.
