Convert text to binary (8-bit ASCII/UTF-8) and decode binary back to text. Free encoder for education, CTF challenges, and debugging. 100% free, private,.
Text to binary conversion translates each character of human-readable text into its underlying binary (base-2) representation — a string of zeros and ones that mirrors how the character is actually stored in computer memory. The reverse operation, binary to text, reads groups of eight binary digits (one byte) and reconstructs the original characters. This tool handles both directions instantly.
Every character on a keyboard maps to a numeric code point. The classic ASCII standard covers the first 128 characters (English letters, digits, basic punctuation) using 7 bits, padded to 8 for storage. Modern UTF-8 extends this to over a million characters across every written language, but ASCII characters keep the same single-byte representation. The letter 'A' is decimal 65, hex 0x41, and binary 01000001 in both ASCII and UTF-8.
The encoder outputs bytes separated by spaces so they're easy to scan: 01001000 01100101 01101100 01101100 01101111 spells "Hello". The decoder accepts the same space-separated format and tolerates extra whitespace. If a byte does not match a printable character, its raw value is shown so you can debug encoding issues.
Characters outside the basic Latin alphabet (accented letters, emoji, non-Latin scripts) require multiple bytes in UTF-8. The tool handles these as multi-byte sequences. Pure 8-bit binary cannot represent them in a single byte, so the output will show two, three, or four space-separated bytes per character.
All conversion runs locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded — even sensitive text stays on your device.
Convert binary numbers to decimal with the Binary to Decimal Converter. Encode text in Base64 with the Base64 Encoder/Decoder. Try the Hex to Decimal tool for base-16.
Each character is converted to its 8-bit ASCII/UTF-8 binary representation.
Basic multilingual plane characters work. Extended Unicode may need more than 8 bits.
Spaces separate each byte in the binary output.
