What Are Image Filters?
Filters apply colour and tonal adjustments to a photo — they're how Instagram, TikTok, and every other photo app give different visual moods. A black-and-white filter desaturates; sepia adds a brown tint reminiscent of old photos; vintage combines several adjustments to mimic faded film; noir cranks contrast for a moody monochrome look. This tool applies filters entirely in your browser using the Canvas filter property; your photo is never uploaded.
Presets Explained
Black & White: Removes all colour — classic, timeless, and great for portraits with distracting backgrounds.
Sepia: Brown-tinted monochrome — adds a nostalgic, old-photograph feel.
Cool: Shifts the hue toward blue — adds a calm, modern feel; works well for tech and product shots.
Warm: Pushes hues toward orange and yellow — adds a sunny, inviting feel; great for food and travel photos.
Noir: High-contrast black and white — dramatic, moody, ideal for cinematic portraits.
Invert: Negates every colour — produces a film-negative look or accessibility preview.
Manual Adjustments
Brightness shifts every pixel toward white (>100%) or black (Contrast increases the difference between dark and light areas. Saturation controls colour intensity — 0% is fully grey, 200% is hyper-vivid. Hue rotation shifts colours around the colour wheel. Blur adds a soft Gaussian blur for dreamy or privacy effects.
Privacy
Filtering runs entirely in your browser. No upload, no tracking, no account. Close the tab and nothing is retained.
The original file is untouched. The download is a new image with the filter baked in. Re-upload the original any time to start over with different settings.
Can I stack a preset with manual sliders?
Yes — presets and sliders combine. Pick a preset as the base, then nudge brightness, contrast, etc. to taste.
Is the image uploaded?
No. Filters apply via the Canvas `filter` property in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
What's the difference between sepia and vintage?
Sepia is a pure brown tint. Vintage combines sepia with a small contrast and brightness boost to mimic faded film photos.
How does blur work?
Gaussian blur — the higher the value, the softer the image. Useful for soft-focus portraits, background blur for graphics, or privacy blurring before screenshot.
