User Agent Parser

Parse any browser User-Agent string into browser, OS, device, and engine details. Includes your own UA. 100% client-side. Free and privacy-first.

Free User Agent Parser

Decode any browser User-Agent string into a readable breakdown. Useful for log analysis, bug reports, analytics validation, and learning how browsers identify themselves.

Common Uses

  • Debug analytics that look off
  • Understand error reports from users
  • Test mobile vs desktop rendering rules
  • Identify bot traffic in logs
  • Teach how HTTP headers work

How It Works

We run pattern matches against well-known browser, OS, and rendering engine signatures, then bucket the device as Desktop, Tablet, or Mobile. The parsing is heuristic — same as most server libraries.

Privacy

Your UA strings are parsed locally. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

A site reliability engineer pastes a UA from a 500-error log and confirms it was an outdated Chrome on Android 7. They flag the bug as a pre-2019 baseline edge case and prioritise it accordingly.

About User Agent Parser

User-Agent strings are messy — Chrome on Android can claim to be Safari and Mozilla in the same header. This parser breaks any UA string into structured fields (browser, version, engine, OS, OS version, device type, vendor) using the rules from the ua-parser-js project — entirely in your browser.

Why User Agents Lie

Client Hints Are Replacing UA

User-Agent Client Hints (

headers) deliberately reduce UA precision and move structured browser/OS info to separate headers servers must opt into. Eventually the UA string will be frozen at a generic identifier. Plan for it — parse client hints when present and fall back to the UA string otherwise." }} />
