Convert Unix timestamps to dates and dates to timestamps. Supports seconds and milliseconds with live clock. No upload, no sign-up — runs locally and free.
A Unix timestamp converter translates between Unix epoch time (seconds since January 1, 1970) and human-readable date/time formats. This is an essential tool for developers working with APIs, databases, logs, and any system that stores time as numeric timestamps.
Unix timestamps are used everywhere in software development because they're timezone-independent, easy to compare mathematically, compact to store, and unambiguous. APIs often return timestamps, databases store them for efficiency, and log files use them for precise timing. But humans can't read them — that's where this converter comes in.
Debug API responses that return timestamps. Convert log file timestamps to human-readable dates. Calculate time differences between events. Generate timestamps for database queries. Verify that server clocks are synchronized.
All conversions happen in your browser. No data is sent anywhere.
Calculate date differences with the Date Difference Calculator. Generate UUIDs with the UUID Generator.
A Unix timestamp is the number of seconds since January 1, 1970 00:00:00 UTC (the Unix epoch). It's a universal way to represent points in time as a single number.
Unix timestamps are traditionally in seconds. JavaScript's Date.now() returns milliseconds. This tool auto-detects based on the number of digits (13+ digits = milliseconds).
Unix timestamps are always UTC. The displayed date/time is in UTC (ISO 8601 format).
32-bit systems store timestamps as signed 32-bit integers, which overflow on January 19, 2038. Modern 64-bit systems don't have this limitation.
