  2. Get Markdown — The tool walks the parsed DOM and emits clean CommonMark-style Markdown in real time.
  3. Copy or Download — Copy to clipboard with one click or download a .md file ready for Git, README, or static site generators.

Free HTML to Markdown Converter

Convert HTML to clean Markdown directly in your browser. Built for migrating WordPress, Ghost, or Medium exports into Git-friendly Markdown for static site generators like Astro, Hugo, Next.js, Docusaurus, and MkDocs.

What It Handles

  • Headings, paragraphs, line breaks, horizontal rules
  • Bold, italic, inline code, and code blocks
  • Links and images with proper alt and title
  • Ordered, unordered, and nested lists
  • GitHub-flavoured tables with header separators
  • Blockquotes (single and nested)

Why Browser-Based?

Cloud converters re-upload your content — sometimes including draft posts you have not published yet. This tool uses the browser's native DOMParser, so nothing leaves your device.

Privacy

All parsing and conversion is local. No HTML, no Markdown, no metadata is transmitted.

Frequently asked questions

What HTML elements are supported?

Headings (h1–h6), paragraphs, bold, italic, links, images, ordered and unordered lists, code, pre blocks, blockquotes, horizontal rules, and tables.

Does it preserve nested formatting?

Yes. The converter recursively walks the DOM, so bold inside list items, links inside headings, and code inside paragraphs are all preserved.

What happens to scripts and styles?

<script>, <style>, and <noscript> blocks are stripped — Markdown has no equivalent and including them would break renders.

Is my HTML uploaded?

No. The browser's built-in DOMParser handles everything locally. Nothing is sent to any server.
