Credit Card Validator

Free credit card validator. Check Luhn checksum, detect card type (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, etc.), and verify length. 100% private browser-based tool.

How to use

  1. Enter Card Number — Type or paste the credit card number. Spaces are optional and handled automatically.
  2. Review Results — The tool shows card type, Luhn checksum validity, and expected length check.
  3. Interpret — All checks must pass for a number to be structurally valid. This does not guarantee the card is active or has funds.

Free Online Credit Card Validator

Validate credit card numbers instantly using the industry-standard Luhn algorithm. The tool detects card type (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, JCB, Diners Club, UnionPay), checks checksum validity, and verifies length — all processed locally in your browser.

How the Luhn Algorithm Works

The Luhn algorithm, also called the "mod 10" check, was invented by IBM scientist Hans Peter Luhn in 1960. Starting from the rightmost digit and moving left, it doubles every second digit. If doubling produces a two-digit number, those digits are summed (e.g., 8×2=16 → 1+6=7). All digits are then summed, and if the total is divisible by 10, the number is structurally valid.

What This Tool Checks

  • Card type: Matches the number prefix against known issuer ranges.
  • Length: Verifies the number has the expected digit count for that card type.
  • Luhn checksum: Confirms the number passes the mod-10 validation.

What It Does NOT Check

This tool performs structural validation only. It cannot verify whether a card is active, has available credit, is expired, or was stolen. Only the issuing bank or a payment processor can confirm those details.

Privacy & Security

Your card number is processed locally in your browser using pure JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or transmitted to any server.

Frequently asked questions

Is my card number stored or sent anywhere?

No. Validation runs entirely in your browser. The number never leaves your device.

What is the Luhn algorithm?

The Luhn algorithm (mod 10 check) is a checksum formula used to validate credit card numbers, IMEI numbers, and other identification codes. It catches most single-digit and adjacent transposition errors.

Does this tool check if the card has funds?

No. This tool only checks structural validity (Luhn checksum and card type pattern). It does not connect to banks or payment processors.

Why does my valid card show as invalid?

Make sure you entered the full number without missing digits. Some virtual or temporary cards may use non-standard prefixes not in our pattern list.

What card types are supported?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diners Club, and UnionPay.
